According to the Agriculture Ministry’s latest verification report, it was discovered that in many regions, both husband and wife were receiving ₹6,000 each under the PM Kisan Scheme.
But here’s the rule — under this scheme, only one member per family (husband, wife, or minor children) is eligible for the benefit. So, if both spouses were receiving it, that counts as duplicate or fraudulent claims.
And that’s exactly what’s happening across the country. The government has identified over 31 lakh suspicious beneficiaries, and the clean-up has already begun.
31 Lakh Suspicious Cases: The Verification Drive
The Ministry’s verification drive has been in full swing across all states and union territories.
Out of 31.01 lakh questionable cases, investigations for 19.02 lakh farmers are already complete. Shockingly, about 17.87 lakh (94%) of those were found to be husband and wife both receiving money from the same household.
The government has now issued strict directions to all state authorities to finish the verification process by October 15. Once done, ineligible names will be removed, and the 21st PM Kisan installment will only go to genuine, verified farmers.
More Irregularities Found: Minors and Old Land Records
The government’s data also revealed something even more surprising — about 1.76 lakh payments were made under the names of minors. That’s not allowed under PM Kisan rules since the beneficiary must be an adult farmer owning cultivable land.
In addition, over 33 lakh cases had mismatched or outdated ownership records. In some villages, payments were being sent to both the old and the new landowners for the same plot of land!
Officials have already identified 8.11 lakh such overlapping cases, and they’re now working to correct the land records before the next installment is released.
Why Your PM Kisan Payment Might Be Delayed
If you haven’t received your 21st PM Kisan installment yet, don’t panic.
The government has already released ₹2,000 installments to farmers in flood-affected states like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. However, for farmers in other states, payments might come after the verification process ends.
Officials are hopeful that the money will be released before Diwali, but if record corrections take longer, payments could extend into November.
